Getting started

Keys in hand in ten minutes.

What is BYOK (Bring Your Own Keys)?

You create API keys directly with AI providers and paste them into NeuroBrowse. Your keys are stored locally in your browser's secure extension storage — our servers never see your keys, your browsing, or your summaries. You pay providers only for what you use, with no markup, and you can pick any model — even brand-new ones the day they launch.

The providers

Pick your providers. Start with the cheap ones.

You need at least one key. DeepSeek and Gemini are the friendliest starting points — very low cost or outright free.

The setup wizard does the walking. On first install it links you to each provider, stores your keys locally (never on our servers), tests that they work, and sets your default model. Every provider dashboard also lets you set monthly spending limits — most users spend under $2 a month in API costs, many start at $0, and a $5 limit is a comfortable starting guardrail.

FAQ

Everything people actually ask.

Is my data safe? What about my API keys?

Yes — by architecture, not by promise.

  • API keys: stored locally on your device in Chrome's secure extension storage. Never on our servers.
  • Summaries: your browser talks directly to the AI provider you chose (20+ models across every major provider). We never see your summaries or browsing history.
  • What we do hold: your account email and subscription status — payment itself is handled by Stripe, so we never see your card.

The full details are in the privacy policy.

How much will this actually cost me per month?

The subscription, plus API costs most users keep under $2/month. The subscription is $5/month ($3/month for students with a .edu email), and API usage averages ~$0.003 per summary on top — about $0.30 for 100 summaries a month, while Gemini Flash has a free tier that means many people start at $0. A typical AI subscription runs $20+ for a single tool; you can also set spending limits with every provider, so there are no surprise bills.

What if I don't have API keys yet?

No problem — the setup wizard makes it easy. It links you directly to each provider (2–3 minutes per key), tests your keys, and suggests a starting model. Total setup time is 5–10 minutes; the getting-started guide above covers every provider.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes — yourself, in a couple of clicks, no questions asked.

  • Cancel from the Stripe customer portal via your account page.
  • You keep access until the end of your billing period.
  • Your API keys stay in your browser even after cancellation — they're yours.

What makes NeuroBrowse different from a chat subscription?

NeuroBrowse is built for browsing. One-click summaries on any webpage with no copy-pasting, a persistent sidepanel that stays open while you browse, page-aware chat, the Knowledge Hub, text-selection actions, and 20+ AI models you can switch between instantly. Chat apps are great for conversations; NeuroBrowse is great for understanding what you're reading online — and BYOK means no markup on usage.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes — a 7-day money-back guarantee, full refund, no questions asked. If NeuroBrowse isn't right for you within 7 days of subscribing, email hello@neurolayerlabs.com and we'll refund your subscription in full. After that, cancel anytime and keep access through the period you've paid for. API costs go directly to your AI providers, so we can't refund those — but spending limits keep them controlled. Full policy in the terms.

Which AI model should I use?

Depends on what you're reading — here's the short guide:

  • Fast, cheap models — everyday summaries and casual browsing, for fractions of a cent per page
  • Free-tier models — a $0 way to start; generous limits cover most everyday use
  • Premium models — deep research, academic papers, technical docs, and long documents
  • Search-grounded models — current events, fact-checking, and citations

Switch models anytime, per task — NeuroBrowse also auto-detects page type and suggests a model.

Does NeuroBrowse work on all websites?

Any webpage with text content — news, academic papers, documentation, social posts, product pages, GitHub. The only limit is paywalled content: if you can't read it in your browser, NeuroBrowse can't summarize it either.

Is NeuroBrowse available for Firefox, Safari, or Edge?

NeuroBrowse works on Chrome and all Chromium-based browsers — Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera — straight from the Chrome Web Store. Firefox and Safari are on the roadmap, with no promised date.

Can I share my subscription with family or teammates?

Each subscription is for individual use right now. Interested in a family or team plan? Email hello@neurolayerlabs.com and tell us what you need — it genuinely shapes the roadmap.

Still have questions? hello@neurolayerlabs.com — you'll usually hear back within a day.
